Thank You!

On August 7, 2012, in News, by Bill

Dear family and friends,

Thank you all for all that you have done for Kit and me.  Although we ended a little short in the final count, we all as a team accomplished a lot and in many ways we won.  We ran a good race, and we did it well.  We worked hard, and we did it with class and with integrity.  We can all hold our heads high.  We could not have done it without each and every one of you helping out.

We encourage everybody to run for something once in their life.  It is, or at least can be and for us was, a fabulous experience.  We got to meet so many new people, reacquaint with so many old friends, and make so many new friends.  There are so many memories we will cherish for the rest of our lives.

We got to see parts of the state we had not seen before and to be part of so many events that reminded us of what makes America great and Texas special.  There were Christmas and Fourth of July parades.  From the Farmersville Fall Festival, the Whitesboro Peanut Festival, Kaufman Scarecrow Festival, and many others our faith in people was restored as we were blessed to experience people who work hard, take care of their businesses, care for their families, get involved in their communities, and love every minute of it.

Ours has been a very humbling experience.  True leaders like Harriet Miers say that not only will the support you, but that they are “honored” to do so.  Old friends go way out of their way to help.  Neighbors attend what must seem like hundreds of events for you.   New friends do amazing things for you—people you hardly know step up and adopt you as a cause—they even stand out in the 105 degree heat and campaign for you all day on election day!  Former adversaries in court support and campaign for you.  People open their homes and hearts to you and fight for you.  Your firm supports you like a giant family.  Your family makes huge, unimaginable sacrifices because they love you.  If you are lucky, and we are, former campaign opponents step up to the plate and swing for the fences for you.  And, you wonder how do all of these wonderful things happen to you?  None of it could be imagined in the beginning.

You learn a lot about people and your communities.  You discover that you can do things that you never thought you could.  You will never see the world the same way again.  Your life is forever touched and changed for the better.

Regardless of where you are on the political spectrum, we encourage you to engage in the discussion—get involved.  Stand up and speak out for what you believe in.  You will be glad you did.

A year or so ago when this started, Kit and I talked about the race and said, “Win or lose, this will be Bill and Kit’s great adventure.  When we are 80 years old and sitting on the front porch, we will look back on this and talk about it.  We will laugh about it, and we will cry about it.  But, by golly we will have done it together.  And we did. And we did it with all of you.  We cannot thank you all enough for all that you have done for us.  But, please know that we appreciate you all very much.  May God bless you all as much as he has blessed us because of you.

With many thanks, Bill and Kit

    Bill,

I am disappointed you did not win. I only met you when we both attended the RPT convention in Ft. Worth. What caught my attention is that you respectfully and methodically picked up your excess brochures/flyers. This may seem very trivial to some, but I interpreted this simple act as an indication that you pay attention to details. After we had an opportunity to meet and speak for a few moments I was impressed that you communicated as a human and not as a politician. I will be watching for your name to pop up again in the future.

    Best wishes!

    Sincerely,

The world needs more people like you in it! Congratulations on a well ran race. Thanks also for inspiring people to get more involved in their community! I’m glad to have reconnected with you. If you ever come to Gardere’s Houston office, give me a call – we’re just a few floors down. Give my best to Kit! Take care,
